PEOPLE DON'T READ COPY

I know, it's shocking for a copywriter to admit that. Most people skim, stopping only at bold headlines or cool pictures. If they stop to read, they're disappointed because it's just blah blah blah—copy that makes your eyes glaze over because it doesn't say anything. No one wants to read that crap.
After writing webcopy for 10+ years and teaching writing seminars, this is what I've learned:

Blah blah blah is fake, wastes time, and drives people away.

Worse still, all that nothing costs your business money. If you want to engage your audience and convert, you need copy that is worth their time. No fluff. No filler. No blah blah blah.

UNLESS YOU SAY SOMETHING REAL

Maybe you've seen this company description before: "We're an innovative company that's passionate about what we do..."

BORING.

Everyone says the same thing—No one stands out. And if you don't stand out, you don't sell. It doesn't say anything. It's not real. It's just a floating idea. At best, no one reads/cares about fluff like that. At worst, they find it dishonest.

And if there's one thing that the modern consumer hates, it's a company that lies to them.

MEET AND GREET

Before we get started, I want to know if we're going to be a good fit. Do our philosophies/personalities mesh? On our initial call, we'll talk about the scope of your project and get to know each other a bit better.

PROPOSAL

After our chat, I'll have an idea of how I can help. I provide a proposal that includes my expectations that need to be met for the project to work, the items I'll deliver, the earliest start date, and a quote. Half the project fee is required up front so I can reserve time for your project.

RESEARCH

Good copy comes from understanding your identity, what makes you special, and who you're competing against.  I take special care to understand who your customers are, what kind of pain points they experience, and the language they use to describe your solution.

COPYWRITING

I turn the research into copy. I take those pain points your customers feel and show them the remedy is you. During this phase I create lo-fi wireframes that show where the copy will sit on the page. We'll go through a few revisions and drafts because good writing is rewriting.

HANDOFF

Only very light revisions will be done at this phase and the copywriting is finished. Your development team will get final drafts and instructions on how to proceed. With the wireframes, they'll be able to use the copy in their vision of site design.
